In this cages we deliver the queens.

Here starts the queen rearing: in the hives. For over years we selectet from our apiaries the best honey producing bees, the most tame, the less swarming and those who tend to be healthier.

The hives are examined carefully...

...to keep endless and boring statistical records, to know from wich one get the queens or the drones.

This hive is weightet every day. So we can compare if the chosen bees to be improved genetically are better as those ones improved before.

Before going further, it is important that the bees are healthy. To know for sure if they are, we have our own lab to make the required tests.

From the very best hives, we get brood frames...

...for grafting.

Only larvaes, less the 24 hours old are suitable.

The larvaes are very carefully moved to the bottom of this plastic queen cup.

A larvae on the queen cup bottom.

The frames with 45 graftet queen cups each, are introduced into a special hive called starter-finisher.

The starter-finisher bees duty is to feed plentiful with royal jelly the little larvaes.

This way the queen cups becomes queen cells..

13 days after grafting, the frames are moved to the lab, where the queen cells are inspectet for size and shape.

From a queen cell like this one, in 3 days more will born a virgin queen.

10 days after borning, the virgin queen is sexually mature.

The drones, obtained from selectet hives are sexually mature after 15 days after borning.

Once got the selectet virgin queens and drones, the work goes on in the istrumental insemination lab.

So we breed the queens in Colmenares Suizos, 2 part.
